David Leslie

David Leslie

I play a vintage 1962 Ludwig Club Date 4 piece jazz kit. I use various sticks and felt mallets to achieve different sounds.

I’m originally from Michigan and moved to Salt Lake City in 1991. I have been playing the drums in some form or another since grade school though I think I started on pots and pans or anything else I could hit at the age of 2.

I started playing drums in the mid 70’s, moved to Salt Lake on my way to Seattle in ’91 to play but never made it.

My musical influences started with Lawrence Welk (no kidding). I then found that The Who, Phish, Zappa and Benny Goodman inspired me.

When I was at The Shrine Circus I found myself fixated on the drummers, not the acrobats. That coupled with my Grandparents love of Lawrence Welk spurred my love of percussion.

I enjoy guessing peoples tire air pressure for quarters and collecting David Hasslehof memorabilia. I also work full time as a designer/cabinet maker in Salt Lake.

Motherlode has given me the chance to play so many styles of music you would normally not find in one band plus the joy of lifting heavy equipment at 1 a.m.
